"Throw me some beads, Mister!"
This year we drove to New Orleans for Mardi Gras with the kids. It was a very different experience from my last trip to Mardi Gras as a senior in college...
We really went to visit Shannon, Justin and their two beautiful kids, but why not go during Mardi Gras? Shannon was my college roommate and is fortunate enough to be from New Orleans. As a bonus, my sister Catherine and her husband Mike were also visiting from Chicago. They were participating in the Endymion Ball after the Endymion parade. We got to visit some of our favorite people in the Big Easy.
It was definitely a family event. The parades were kid-friendly - no nakedness - and pure entertainment. Thomas loved sitting high above heads in a homemade ladder seat. They continuously shouted, "Throw me some beads, Mister!" Over the long weekend we got to experience parades, beads, the french quarter, gumbo, po-boys, fried catfish, and beignets at cafe du monde. We were exhausted, but can't wait to go back!
